I watched several of the documentary episodes of Strange
Sex, which can be found on Netflix. I found them very interesting. The first
episode was about older women dating younger men. In the episode, the
considered them cougars and cubs. Cougars are women over forty who pursue sex
with men at least eight years of their junior. [1]
Cubs are considered younger men around twenty five that pursue these cougars.
According to Linda Franklin, Author of The Real Cougar Woman, in the
documentary states that, men having been chasing younger women since time
began. She states that, that is
beginning to change. In fact, as of 2003, 34% of women in the U.S. over the age
of 40 are dating younger men.[2] Apparently on psychological level, men want
to have sex with their mothers. However, when they attract and have sex with
these older women they engage because it is more socially acceptable.[3]
Honestly, I thought that was absolutely disgusting. However, it was said that
in Europe, older women that were sex symbols were seen as courtesan and were
respected. This really reminded me about Ben Franklin and how he would talk
about having sex with older women was better considering that they could not
get pregnant and that they were wise at sex[4].
